James Terry Collective
A limitless passion for the performing arts
James Terry Collective is an established Melbourne independent production company.
Their critically acclaimed production of TARZAN The Stage Musical received the Green Room Award for Independent Production of the Year (2026), as well as Best Direction (Alister Smith), and Best Original Choreography (Michael Ralph).
Previous musical theatre productions include Kinky Boots (Green Room Awards - Independent Production of the Year (2023), Best Direction (Martin Croft), and Best Ensemble. Next To Normal (2022, Green Room Awards - Best Leading Actor (Queenie van de Zandt), Best Original Choreography (Freya List), following Legally Blonde the Musical (2019), and RENT (2018).
In 2025, JTC produced a new staging of the Tony-Award winning play, The Boys in the Band written by Mart Crowley, marking 50 years since its Australian premiere.
James is an established video producer, and creative director. Working in digital media for television and social media, his work has promoted commercial musical productions for Disney Theatrical Group, TEG Dainty Group, Global Creatures, The Production Company, John Frost for Crossroads Live, Michael Cassel Group, Life Like Company, Melba Opera Trust, Melbourne Theatre Company, Victorian Opera, Arts Centre Melbourne, and more.
During his time as the Head of Digital Media for TheatrePeople.com.au, the website and social accounts reached #1 for theatre video content in Australia with multimillion views. It remains Australia's largest archive of musical theatre productions.
James also founded the company Take the Mic Australia, established in 2013 to embrace and encourage rising young talent. Take the Mic presents Australia's biggest non-televised singing competition, and has presented many junior musical theatre programmes including the Australian community theatre premiere of Disney's The Lion King Jr.
